SCHOOL PROGRAM 2026/27

Mini Beach Academy: growing on the sand

An educational and sports program by Beach Volley World for elementary and middle schools, primarily for children ages 6–12. Movement, decision-making, teamwork, and respect for the environment come together in a barefoot experience on the sand, adapted to each class’s age and needs.

Learning to make your own decisions, without being on your own.

Beach volleyball comes to school. School comes to the sand: from October through May at Pala BVW, with four covered courts heated in winter.

Body, mind, relationships, and the environment

Four educational dimensions help students progress from exploring the sand to playing the game, connecting movement, independence, teamwork, and citizenship.

BODY

Growing on the sand. Running, stopping, jumping, and finding their way on a yielding surface give children opportunities to practice balance, coordination, proprioception, and motor control. Activities are progressive and supervised.

MIND & RELATIONSHIPS

Learning to make your own decisions, without being on your own. Reading a ball’s flight, choosing, trying, and adjusting: the game develops decision-making and the ability to handle mistakes. In 2-on-2 play, individual choices connect with a partner’s through communication, trust, and shared responsibility.

ENVIRONMENT

Understanding to protect. The sand also provides a starting point for discussing beaches, the local area, and shared spaces: litter, plastic, caring for places, and responsible behavior. A practical link between sports and civic education.

MINI BEACH ACADEMY

Four options to develop together

From a first experience on the sand to an ongoing program, each proposal is developed with the school principal and lead teacher, selecting goals, classes, and activities suited to the group.

1

SCHOOL INTRODUCTION

An introduction to the sport and, where space allows, preparatory games and activities agreed upon with the teacher.

2

BEACH EXPERIENCE

A first experience at Pala BVW combining barefoot movement, coordination, ball and net activities, and simplified 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 play.

3

SCHOOL PROGRAM

A series of 4–6 sessions, or a longer program, to progressively develop motor, technical, and decision-making skills.

4

BEACH SCHOOL CUP

A potential interschool series with age-appropriate formats emphasizing participation, fair play, and self-refereeing. Sessions at Pala BVW in winter and spring could conclude with a beach event in June.

An approach tailored to each class

The program is led by qualified FIPAV coaches, including third-level coaches. Spaces, net height, balls, rules, and tasks are adapted to the group’s age, movement experience, and needs.

The teaching method draws on the Constraints-Led Approach: creating game situations in which students can explore, make choices, try, and improve.

The educational framework of FIPAV S3 is adapted to sand and 2-on-2 play, with temporary modifications such as catching and throwing, higher ball trajectories, and smaller courts. Self-refereeing supports independence, self-control, and fair play.

The teacher remains an educational partner; BVW provides specialist expertise and organizes activities on the sand.
